A Student's Introduction to Wordshark

(opens new browser tab with PDF)

Students should be encouraged to open their Play Words to to familiarise themselves with the words before playing the games.

They can click on each word to hear it spoken and look at the image.

Use the white arrows on the yellow tabs to show or hide the list.

From here they can also use the sliders to see the phonics and syllables in each word.

The list last used will always come up first

SUPERSHARK
is always available

For any SET WORK – click on the PURPLE tab or button - keep practising any Set Work until your next lesson, even if marked ‘Complete’

Adding 'own words' as a student:

It is possible to add 'own word lists' either signed in as the student or as the admin/teacher.
Idea
If you create own word lists whilst signed in as a student they can only be accessed via the student's 'Own Lists' tab (see image below). No records are kept using this method.
If you create own word lists whilst signed in as the admin, these need to be assigned to the student as Set Work. See Creating your own word lists and assigning as Set Work for a student.

Adding ‘own word’ list as a student user:
To make a new word list click on the Own Lists tab and the button at the bottom of the screen Make New Word List.  As long as you remember to save the list all your lists will appear under the Own Lists tab on the main dashboard. Across from the list name you will see a green PLAY button. Click on this and it will take you to the Games screen where your chosen wordlist will appear as spelling words within the available games.

You can edit your wordlists to include your own images and definitions if you would like to. Do this by clicking on word list name.
You can also go directly to the Games Screen via the Play Games tab on the main dashboard. It will open on the most recently used course e.g. ‘Own lists’. The grey banner across the screen will tell which course and wordlist your child is currently using.

What progress can students/parents see?

Keep a check on progress being made - click on
  1. My Progress  tab to see progress in the Supershark course
  2. My Set Work to see the completion status of any set work list (remember your own lists added as a student will not be shown here)
  3. Weekly pop-up!  This gives interesting stats on your Supershark progress and the total time spent playing games and all the words spelt accurately during that week
